Option 1: Preview (built in)

  1. Open the HEIC photo in Preview.
  2. Choose File > Export.
  3. Set Format to PNG and click Save.

Option 2: Finder quick action (several photos)

On recent versions of macOS, select one or more HEIC files in Finder, Control-click, and choose Quick Actions > Convert Image. Pick PNG as the format and click Convert.

Option 3: Convert in your browser

  1. Click Choose files above (or drag HEIC/HEIF photos onto the box).
  2. Wait a moment while each photo is converted in your browser.
  3. Click Download next to each PNG.

FAQ

Will converting change my original photo?

No. Preview’s Export, the Finder quick action and this converter all create a new file and leave the HEIC original as it was.

I don’t see Convert Image in Quick Actions.

It is only available on newer macOS versions. Use Preview or the browser converter instead.
